The Helm Team Code is a.k.a. "Timothean"
This requires the following explanation:
either: 1. Hikaru Sulu’s middle name is Timothy
(he is American, after all...)
or: 2. When they first met, Chekov mistakenly called him Timothy,
constantly, to annoy him: pretending to be unable to
either 1: remember his real name
or 2 : correctly pronounce his correct name
If you know Pavel, you can guess which it is...
Anyway, since the code language was invented by Sulu as a means to
annoy him, Chekov has named it “Timothean”
Simple explanation of the Helm Code:
The Russian language is written in the Cryillic alphabet. A language with
21 consanants, 10 vowels and several pronounciation signs, the letters do
not correspond (for the most part) with the sounds of the Latin
alaphabet letters that they resemble. Russian must be transliterated
into the Latin alphabet to properly pronounce the words.
To form the Helm Team Code, handwritten Cyrillic words are
pronounced (badly) as if they were written in the Latin alphabet. This
only works with the handwritten alphabet: it does not work with the
typed alphabet. The most outlandish sounding alternative is used in
exchange for the real word, although not always. It depends the mood,
and the sobriety of, Chekov and Sulu at the time.
(No disrespect is intended toward the beautiful Cyrillic alphabet!)
