Star Trek: New Voyages is a ground breaking independent Web Series of new TOS
episodes produced by James Cawley that are available to download for free. These
tales continue the five year mission and faithfully incorporate Gene Roddenberry’s
vision of TOS’s future. Chekov, played by Andy Bray, is a Lieutenant; our crew has
expanded with new characters created by Roddenberry; and you’ll notice Phase II
uniforms mixed in with the familiar ones.

Begun as a fan’s simple dream–to film the rest of the five year mission–Executive
Producer James Cawley has guided a stunning recreation of the Classic series. This
remarkable fan produced series is done entirely on a volunteer basis and has
attracted a host of well-known professionals to contribute their work–and their
money–for the love of
Star Trek: TOS. Professional camera, lighting, CGI,  editing,
musicians and
Star Trek alumni including actors, writers and directors have been
inspired to join the
New Voyages family, as well as Eugene Roddenberry Jr. as a
consultant. Some of the original props and uniforms have been obtained, and the group
has done a painfully accurate recreation of the
Star Trek sets, so accurate the that
original
Trek actors have called them “indistinguishable from the originals.”

It has been said a thousand times over, but it bears repeating. The Original series
inspired us with a vision of a better future and the declaration that mankind will
always have the strength to follow their dreams. The ship was ours and it was
populated by real people who were family–our family.  Fans have always been driven
by an insatiable need for more episodes of the Original Series. They began with much
used carbon paper and mimeograph machines, embraced the copy machine when it
came, and now use professional printers and the
internet to spread further tales of the adventures of
Kirk, Spock and crew. It only stood to reason that fans
would move into now producing their own episodes on
HD digital when the technology became available,  but
it took James Cawley’s tireless and inspired leadership
to do it right.

Star Trek: New Voyages is Trek the way it was meant to be. Watching the Star Trek
films was visiting with old friends,
Star Trek: New Voyages is something entirely
different. With scripts written by
Star Trek alumni and brilliant special effects that
would rival any feature film,
Star Trek: New Voyages has finally revived the original
Star Trek series and restored it to what captured fans to begin with.  Watching
these episodes is a heart-stopping and surreal experience for any fan. They have gone
back to the basics and treated fans to genuine new episodes in the original series that
you can neither recite nor predict. These are
Classic Star Trek episodes at their
best: even better. The actors have come into their own, the directing is clean, the
editing flawless, and the quality will stun you. Every episode only gets better.

If canon is defined as footage produced by those who legally own
Star Trek, than no,
Star Trek: New Voyages is not canon. It is, however, something far greater,
something entirely beyond the grasp of those who regard this thing as a business. The
studio never really understood us. In their futile attempts to acknowledge the fans
they kept generating new incarnations of
Star Trek for us. We accepted them with
good humor but we really never embraced them. Fans have always wanted new
episodes of the original series and James Cawley’s production has clearly declared
that if the studio will not give them to us, we will make them ourselves.
Star Trek:
New Voyages
continues to gather an ever growing family of crew and fans that have
one thing in common–
Star Trek fans who believe in the message of the original show.

While
Star Trek: New Voyages is not canon by definition, it has inspired canon, to be
sure. No sane man can claim that Paramount’s attempt to ‘reboot’
Star Trek with the
planned
Star Trek XI movie is not a direct reaction to Star Trek: New Voyages and
the downloads that swell into the millions. James Cawley and his clan of friends have
finally made Paramount take notice of what we all knew all along: it’s the original crew
and their mission that we want. The only problem is that they still don’t understand.
Star Trek: New Voyages is a fanfilm only because people who love Star Trek are the
ones who made the film. It proves the adage that we have always known: it’s the fans
that are the ones who know what makes
Star Trek work.

No
Star Trek: New Voyages is not canon.
