Silly tribble, Chekov wasn't on the
bridge in the first twenty-six episodes!
(So we don't know what he might have been saying...)
HISTORICAL NOTE: In the current military, Academy
graduates from the "Command School" must serve in every
department of the first ship they are posted to before
they take their final position on the ship, in order to
become familiar with how each operates. Assuming this
tradition is continued, Ens. P. A. Chekov graduated from
Starfleet Academy at twenty-one and was serving in the
various other departments of the Enterprise during the
first season--where he apparently ran into Khan at some
point in time.
(We all know it was in the bathroom...)
